Project Name: Welland Salsa & Cumbia Festival 2026
Project Description:

This application is for the Welland Salsa & Cumbia Festival (WSCF) 3rd Edition, a two-day, free, large-scale multicultural festival taking place August 29 to 30, 2026, in downtown Welland, Ontario, and along the Welland Canal. Building on the success of its first two editions, the 2026 festival is designed as its most ambitious and tourism-driven presentation to date, expanding programming and site activations to attract new non-local audiences to Welland and the Niagara Region. The festival positions Welland as a vibrant destination for Latin music, dance, heritage, and live arts while showcasing the canal as a signature cultural and tourism asset. The programming includes: (1) Main Stage Amphitheatre on the Welland Canal: live salsa and cumbia orchestras, featured vocalists, regional performers, and headline acts, with DJs, dance showcases, and folkloric performances representing multiple Latin American countries; (2) “Festivalito” Children and Youth Stage: family-focused programming with youth folklore performances, interactive cultural activities, hands-on workshops, and the Kidpreneurs showcase supporting 10+ youth entrepreneurs; (3) “WellArt” Live Art Zone: ten local artists creating artwork live throughout the festival, culminating in a public exhibition and artist interactions; (4) Street Carnival Activation: roaming circus artists, stilt walkers, acrobats, and interactive characters animating the festival corridor and creating a continuous street celebration; and (5) Nautical Folkloric Parade (Sunday, August 30): a first-of-its-kind non-motorized folkloric parade on the Welland Canal, presenting cultural delegations and performances on the water.
