Incorporated in 2001,the Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto Canada (formerly known as the Museum of Contemporary Canadian Art – MOCCA) was founded from the former Art Gallery of North York in 1999. The mandate of the Museum is “to continue to exhibit, research, collect and promote innovative art by Canadian and international artists whose works address challenging issues and themes relevant to our times”. In 2005, the Museum relocated to Queen Street West and Shawwhere it resided until 2015. In 2015 MOCA announced a partnership with Castlepoint Numa to create a new home for the Museum at 158 Sterling Road near the Junction Triangle where it will occupy 55,000 square feet on the first five floors of the iconic Tower Automotive building. The new Museum of Contemporary Art Toronto Canada will open its doors in October, 2017.

This application is for “Jeff Wall at MOCA Toronto” taking place October 19, 2025, to March 22, 2026, at the MOCA in Toronto. Wall is internationally renowned for his pioneering staged photography, combining cinematography and fine art to create meticulously composed scenes. His large-scale photographs explore complex social and historical themes, challenging traditional documentary photography by blending reality with constructed narratives.

Programming includes:

(1) The Jeff Wall exhibition; occupying all 28,000 square feet of MOCA’s facility, visitors will be able to experience 50 of Wall’s photographs, including lightboxes, large scale prints, and new works presented for the first time;

(2) a series of public programs including talks, events, and workshops in connection to Wall’s exhibition; and

(3) pending collaborations with the TMU Image Centre, Gallery 44, Gallery TPW, AGO, TIFF, CONTACT Photography Festival, the Archive of Modern Conflict; galleries and collectors including Stephen Bulger Gallery, Jane Corkin/Corkin Gallery, Harry and Ann Malcolmson, Sarah Milroy; curators, historians and artists including, Ann Thomas, Claudia Beck, and the Estate of Michael Snow, Ian Wallace, Suzy Lake, Stephen Waddell, Marta Braun, Ydessa Hendeles, Edward Burtynsky, and Sophie Hackett, among others; as well as other artists, students, academics, and the general public.
