THEMUSEUM is a registered charitable organization and our mandate is reflected in our Mission Statement: To scan the globe for fresh cultural content and use it to stage experiences that stimulate transformative connections for our audiences. Our Vision, simply put, is: To awe, inspire and enlighten.

This fundning is for the marketing of a new exhibition entitled "ALARM”, a multi-modal exhibition curated by Jane Tingley and Nina Czegledy taking place from January 26 to April 26, 2020. Presented in collaboration with Digital Dynamics (who also collaborated on THEMUSEUM’s “interAction in 2018) the exhibition will fuse art and technology in an immersive experience centered on the theme of climate change. The exhibition, which is presented as a “festival experience” will consist of a series of installations and events to locations throughout Waterloo Region, integrating local partner organizations and institutions into the planning, promotion and execution of the exhibition. Programming will include:

(1) The primary exhibit will span 11,500 square feet and the top two floors at THEMUSEUM. The first floor will include technological installations created through collaborations between artists and top Canadian universities, while the second floor will include climate-themed artworks by 10 domestic and international artists: Kristine Diekman, ‘Behold the Tilapia’; Olga Kisseleva, ‘Anthropocean’; Diane Landry, ‘Knights of Infinite Resignation’; Donna Legault, ‘Drone’; Caro McCaw, ‘Sounding’; Liz Miller, ‘Shoreline’; Maayke Schurer, ‘Papers Ocean’; Rasa Smite, ‘Biotricity’; Elaine Whittaker, ‘Spontaneous Generation’; Pinar Yoldas, ‘Ecosystem of Excess’; and Brian Riddell, ‘High Ice Hard Truth’;

(2) An Indigenous film series in partnership with the Grand River Film Festival hosted at the Centre for International Governance Innovation;

(3) A high profile feature speaker (tbc);

(4) Programs and workshops designed in collaboration with community partners will leverage the family-oriented activities in THEMUSEUM’s state-of-the-art Underground Studio MakerSpace. This will include the “Community Bee Project” held with Bee Specialists, Beekeepers and artists (details tbc); and

(5) A dialogue series and panel forums (details tbc).

Additional installations, programming, films and supplementary events will take place at venues across Waterloo Region, including the University of Waterloo Art Gallery and Catalyst 137. Off-site programming details have yet to be confirmed.
