Project Name: 125e Anniversaire de la Fromagerie de St. Albert
Project Description:

This funding is for the marketing of the “Festival de la Curd 2019 – the 125th Anniversary of the Fromagerie de St-Albert”, taking place at the Cheese Factory August 14-18, 2019. Founded in 1894, the factory is the oldest cooperative in Ontario and one of the oldest in Canada, dating back to the foundation of the Desjardins cooperative movement in 1900. The Cheese Factory will organize various anniversary activities throughout the year with local partners, with the Festival being the main event in August. The Festival will include two new new anniversary activities and an enhanced live entertainment program:

(1) Historical Exhibition: the Festival will present an exhibition on the history of the Cheese Factory with artifacts, photos, and tools of the period in order to highlight the importance of the cooperative in the development of the village and the region. Cheese making workshops and tours of the factory will also be offered;

(2) Wine and Cheese (August 17): a culinary event themed around the history of the cooperative;

(3) Enhanced live entertainment program including local talent such as comedian Katherine Levac, originally from St-Bernardin, Véronic Dicaire of Embrun, and the Ottawa Swing group. Programming will include two music shows, two comedy shows, and two children's shows.

The Cheese Factory will also organize various anniversary activities throughout the year with local partners, including: “Poutine Week” (February 1-7), “Winter Festival”; (February 8-10), “Sugar Shack Supper” (March 30); RCMP Musical Ride (May 19); Country Music Party (May 25, 2019); Guinness Record of the largest number of ancient combines working simultaneously (August 11); "The Magic of Success" magic show (October 26), and a “Christmas Fair” (December 11-14).
