Anne of Green Gables - The Ballet
Description du projet
This application is for “Anne of Green Gables - The Ballet”, taking place in 11 Ontario communities including Brampton, Burlington, Cornwall, London, North Bay, Orillia, Ottawa, St. Catharines, Toronto, Welland and Windsor. The production represents a major expansion of programming in Ontario including launching an inaugural summer season in Toronto (at the Bluma Appel Theatre at the St. Lawrence Centre for the Arts July 24-26, 2020). The production will tour throughout the province (dates TBD).
The production, which premiered in Halifax last September, with a creation budget of over $700,000, was fully funded through private donations. The music, composed by Norman Campbell and arranged by Alexander Levkovich, is based on Anne of Green Gables – The Musical and will feature an extended orchestration recorded by a 76-piece symphony orchestra. The original choreography is by Bengt Jörgen, C.M.
Based on the beloved Canadian novel by Lucy Maud Montgomery, Anne of Green Gables – The Ballet follows the adventures of Anne Shirley, an orphan girl sent to live on a farm in the fictional town of Avonlea, Prince Edward Island.
The presenting partner for all performances is BMO Financial Group. The balance of the project will be funded by performance fees, ticket sales and this request to OCAF. The National Ballet of Canada and Mirvish Productions have provided strategic marketing advice.
