Projet Harbourfront's 50th Anniversary
Description du projet

This application is for “Harbourfront: 50 Years of Creative Connections by the Water”, taking place June 1 to December 31, 2024. In 2024, Harbourfront Centre will celebrate its 50th anniversary as a leading international centre for contemporary arts and culture. As part of its 50th anniversary year, Harbourfront will reopen its major square that has been under renovation for the past two years. Much of the programming will revolve around the newly renovated and reimagined space.

Harbourfront will present a distinct year-long anniversary program – a celebration of creativity to be manifested through 50 thoughtfully curated programming initiatives underpinned by four programmatic themes:

(1) “The Classics”: Harbourfront will reintroduce a selection of iconic events including World of Music and Dance, World Stage, World Leaders, Torque, Free Flicks, Dancing on the Square, Choir! Choir! Choir!, and Island Soul. These “Classics” aim to infuse a sense of nostalgia and cultural enrichment into the anniversary celebrations;

(2) “New Creation”: 26 Artists-in-Residence currently working in the Craft & Design Studios will be part of a special pilot program exploring the opportunity to create work within the digital realm;

(3) “With Gratitude”: Harbourfront will extend venue partner support primarily through waived venue rental fees for a performance or event to historic programming partners such as the Art of Time Ensemble, Ashkenaz Foundation, Batuki Music, MoOnhORsE Dance, Habari Africa, TAIWANFest and Fall for Dance North, among others;

(4) “Hello Neighbour”: In collaboration with the Waterfront BIA and the local residents’ associations, Harbourfront will host the very first Waterfront Yard Sale, inviting the entire community to participate, set up a table and sell their wares.

Other programming initiatives include: DJ Skate Nights, skate performances by Quebec’s Patin Libre, and the opening of newly transformed Public Square. Additional programming details will be available in the near future.
