Description du projet

This application is for the “38th Toronto International Dragon Boat Race Festival”, a multicultural sporting and cultural event taking place June 13 and 14, 2026, at the Toronto Islands. While dragon boat racing has traditionally been the Festival’s central attraction, the 2026 edition represents a significant expansion of the event’s cultural programming, physical footprint, and visitor experience. Programming includes: (1) Dragon boat racing competition: the festival’s core sporting event featuring competitive dragon boat races that bring together teams from across Canada and international participants, drawing thousands of spectators to the Toronto waterfront; (2) Awareness Pavilion: a newly introduced cultural and learning hub featuring curated exhibits, storytelling sessions, multimedia presentations, and facilitated discussions developed in collaboration with Indigenous educators, community leaders, and cultural historians to promote intercultural dialogue and public awareness of diverse cultural histories; (3) Cultural village: a significantly enlarged cultural marketplace featuring more than 80 exhibitors, artists, artisans, and community organizations representing a wide range of cultural communities, alongside demonstrations, performances, and interactive activities; and (4) Kids zone: an expanded family area offering hands-on cultural workshops, storytelling sessions, mini-drumming experiences, collaborative art installations, and a new youth cheerleading competition featuring multicultural school and community teams.
