Projet Forever Hip
Description du projet

This application is for “Forever Hip: Tenth Anniversary Celebrations of The Tragically Hip’s Final Concert in Kingston” from July 15 to November 29, 2026, in various locations across Kingston. Formed in Kingston in 1984, The Tragically Hip earned national and international fame, and following Gord Downie’s terminal cancer diagnosis, the band mounted one final Canadian tour, culminating in their final show in Kingston. On the tenth anniversary of that concert, Tourism Kingston anticipates that fans will look to the city to remember and celebrate the band. Programming for “Forever Hip” includes: (1) “It’s a Good Life if You Don’t Weaken,” a musical that weaves The Hip’s music into an original story, with ticketing kept financially accessible through subsidies and support from community partners; (2) Events with band members, including one currently embargoed event expected to be covered by national media; and (3) A series of additional events including public screenings and sing-a-longs, a new exhibit at Kingston City Hall, live performances by local musicians, and public art initiatives including a mural and public art activation.
