Nom de l'organisme Hamilton Fringe Festival
Description de l'organisme

Incorporated in 2002, the Hamilton Festival Theatre Company (Hamilton Fringe) creates a platform for independent, emerging, and established theatre artists in Hamilton. By incorporating the Canadian Association of Fringe Festival’s guiding principles, their annual summer Fringe Festival is an accessible, inclusive, and engaging theatre experience where: participants are selected on a non-juried basis; 100% of box office revenue is returned to participating artists; Fringe producers have no control over artistic content of productions; and festivals must remain affordable for all audiences and artists to participate. In recent years the company has explored a series of partnerships with a number of arts organizations and in 2012 restructured, emerging with the goal of creating an autonomous identity and hiring permanent staff to contribute to the Festival year-round.

Description du projet

This application is for the “2026 Hamilton Fringe Festiva”, a large-scale cultural tourism event taking place from July 15 to July 26, 2026, across 14+ indoor and outdoor venues in downtown Hamilton, Ontario. Now in its 21st year, the Hamilton Fringe Festival is the region’s largest theatre festival and a cornerstone summer event that animates the city core, attracts local and out-of-region visitors, and supports significant economic activity. Building on record-breaking attendance in 2025, the 2026 festival represents the largest expansion of programming since the pandemic, with new free outdoor activations, expanded venue participation, and enhanced marketing initiatives. The programming includes: (1) Main Series Theatre Programming: More than 400 performances by 60+ local, national, and international performance companies presented over 12 days, including 28 lottery-selected productions staged at partner venues such as Theatre Aquarius (Studio Theatre), Mills Hardware, The Players’ Guild of Hamilton, and The Westdale; (2) Expanded Indie Venue Series: Up to 28 additional “bring-your-own-venue” productions presented in unconventional and neighbourhood-based spaces across the city, including new 2026 venues such as The Gasworks, Centre for Talking Arts, and The Cotton Factory, increasing audience capacity while extending the festival’s footprint throughout the lower city; (3) Fringe Boulevard & Free Outdoor Programming: An expanded slate of high-visibility, professional-quality outdoor arts events in the downtown core, building on a successful 2025 pilot to attract new audiences, support local businesses, and align with the City of Hamilton’s Downtown Revitalization Plan; and (4) Artist Development, Accessibility & Equity Initiatives: Inclusive programming delivered through the FringeXchange residency program and Accessibility Priority Placement Program, providing performance opportunities, mentorship, professional development, and tailored accessibility supports for equity-seeking artists, including BIPGM artists and artists living with disabilities.
