Projet Here&Now Dance Festival
Description du projet

This application is for “Here&Now 2026”, a three-day contemporary dance festival taking place in Hamilton June 5 to 7, 2026. The 2026 Festival will be open to the public for the first time, having been an invitation only event in the past. The Festival will feature mainstage performances, works-in-progress series, dance-film installations, and professional development activities. Programming includes: (1) Mainstage performances (June 5 to 6): featuring contemporary dance works exploring themes of healing, resistance to traditional expectations. Performances include “Aikā” by Priyanka Tope (Hamilton) and Tanveer Alam (Toronto), “Digging” by Lina Cruz (Montreal), and “homage” by Sylvie Bouchard (Toronto); (2) Prospects works-in-progress (June 6 to 7): two public showings of emerging and experimental works, followed by audience discussion to engage attendees in the creative process and provide feedback to artists; (3) Dance film installations (early May–June 5): short contemporary dance films on loop at prospective high traffic locations, namely Last Supper Books, Hamilton Public Library branches, eFit Institute, Oakville Centre for the Performing Arts, Burlington Performing Arts Centre, and FirstOntario Performing Arts St. Catharines; and (4) MOVE professional development workshops (June 7): interactive workshops for dancers, artists, and students to build skills, share practices, and foster mentorship, complemented by live music, pop-up line dancing, and local vendor activations.
