Established as part of the City of Ottawa’s municipal cultural services framework, the City of Ottawa Cultural Services Department supports a vibrant and diverse arts sector through the development, presentation, and promotion of cultural programming across the city. Through its Cultural Funding Support Unit, Arts Centres, and Public Art Program, the department delivers year-round programming that includes theatre, music, dance, film, visual arts exhibitions, festivals, and community arts initiatives at municipally operated venues such as Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe, Shenkman Arts Centre, and the Ottawa Arts Court. The department also plays a key role in supporting the city’s extensive festival and events ecosystem, which includes internationally recognized celebrations such as Winterlude, Ottawa Jazz Festival, and Canada Day programming, while fostering local artistic creation through grants, residencies, and community partnerships.

Projet City of Ottawa 2026-27 Seasonal Programming

This application is for the “2026/27 Meridian Theatres at Centrepointe and Shenkman Arts Centre Seasons”, a year-long cultural program taking place from May 1, 2026, through April 30, 2027, in Ottawa. Presented across multiple venues within both theatre complexes, the season features a diverse lineup of theatre, music, comedy, family programming, Indigenous artists, and culturally significant performances aligned with the city’s 200th anniversary celebrations. The programming includes: (1) World Music Series: headlined by Cimafunk, a Grammy-nominated Cuban bandleader, and Kazdoura, a Toronto-based Syrian–Lebanese duo; (2) Matinée Café Series: daytime performances offering accessible cultural programming, with typical performances including local artists such as members of the Ottawa Symphonic Orchestra, Grey Jazz Big Band, Moonfruits, Mimi O’Bonsawin, Durham County Poets, Kellylee Evans, and Angelique Francis Quartet; (3) Signature performances: a series of headline concerts and comedy events featuring established Canadian and international performers such as Big Sugar, Brent Butt (Corner Gas), CBC’s The Debaters, and the Just for Laughs Road Show; (4) Family programming: theatre productions and performances designed for children and families (details TBC); and (5) Indigenous performances: headlined by Juno-winning Susan Aglukark and two spirit Cree/Mennonite cellist Cris Derksen.
