Projet Koerner Hall’s 2025-26 Expanded Season
Description du projet

This application is for “Koerner Hall’s 2025-26 Expanded Season”, taking place October 23, 2025, to May 14, 2026. In addition to the regular 2025-26 season programming of 50+ concerts, RCM Performing Arts will present 17 additional concerts under the auspices of four special initiatives:

(1) International Orchestra presentation of the Budapest Festival Orchestra, featuring Gustav Mahler’s monumental Symphony No. 3, conducted by Maestro Iván Fischer (February 12, 2026);

(2) 21C Music Festival (January to May of 2026), including new compositions Gabriela Montera, Barry Shiffman, Osvaldo Golijov and The Happenstancers, along with Kishi Bashi, Cory Wong, and Dragonette in a new three concert series of neo-classical artists performing with The Royal Conservatory Orchestra. This season’s 21C Music Festival will also include a special Chinese New Year celebration starring Tony Yike Yang. The festival will feature Canadian debuts of over 40 works from a diverse pool of composers as well as a dozen world premieres commissioned by the RCM;

(3) Oscar Peterson Festival: in celebration of Peterson’s 100th Birthday, the RCM is hosting a three-day Festival (October 23 to 24, 2025) featuring Canadian and International stars such as Dave Young, Jon Kimura Parker, Makoto Ozone, Thompson Egbo Egbo, Cecile McLorin Salvant, and the Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra with special guests Benny Green and Christian McBride. The Festival will also include masterclasses, symposia, and a podcast; and

(4) Special Programming: Six new events from November 28, 2025 to May 8, 2026. (i) two special presentations of the acclaimed Spanish flamenco ensemble Noche Flamenca with their production “Searching for Goya”; (ii) a special International Women’s Day concert featuring a line-up of all Indigenous artists; (iii) a screening of the Netflix documentary “Life on our Planet” co-hosted by The ROM and featuring curator Anthony Morgan; (iv) a concert by jazz pianist and composer Brad Mehldau with classical pianist Kirill Gerstein; (v) a special concert featuring the return of South Africa’s Soweto Gospel Choir, and (vi) the debut Koerner Hall performance of the Senegalese Orchestra Baobab.
