Projet Summer Solstice Aboriginal Festival - Indigenous Food From the Land
Description du projet

This application is for “Indigenous Food ‘From the Land’”, a brand new programming initiative at the Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival, taking place June 21 to 24, 2018 on Victoria Island and Vincent Massey Park in Ottawa. In 2018 organizers will introduce a culinary program to the Summer Solstice Indigenous Festival for the first time. Programming will include:

(1) Indigenous Long Table Feast (June 21 and 22): Celebrity Indigenous chef David Wolfman (of Cooking with the Wolfman) and local Algonquin chef Cezin Nottoway (of Wawatay Catering) will collaborate on a traditional Indigenous feast for 900 guests each night. 300 tickets will sold each night on a pay-what-you-can basis. The meal will be accompanied by live performances of Inuit throat singing and an Indigenous cellist. Total projected attendance: 1,800;

(2) Indigenous Traditional Foods Pavilion (June 23 and 24): visitors will be able to sample traditional Metis, First Nations and Inuit cuisine. The Pavilion will include photos of traditional food sources and harvesting, information boards identifying traditional Indigenous foods, and demonstrations like harvesting wild rice and traditional processing of maple syrup. Total projected attendance: 3,000; and

(3) Live Cooking Demonstrations with Indigenous Chefs (June 23 and 24): four daily live cooking demonstrations scheduled with the Indigenous chefs or traditional harvesters of the Indigenous foods. A special VIP experience will be available where patrons will gather with Indigenous chefs on Victoria Island to learn to prepare food traditionally over the fire, before sharing an intimate dinner. Total projected attendance: 3,000
