The Western Fair Association was founded in 1867 through the amalgamation of the East Middlesex Agricultural Society and the London District Horticultural and Agricultural Society. The first official meeting of the new Association was in 1868 and the very first Western Fair, which was predominantly livestock shows, was held on September 29 & 30, on the lands surrounding the Crystal Palace Barracks. The Confederation Building, built to commemorate the 50th anniversary of Canadian Confederation was constructed and ready for the 1927 Western Fair. The Confederation building housed many agricultural, home arts, and culinary competitions and is still standing today and operates as The Market at the Western Fair. The Fair spans 10-days and highlights industrial and art exhibitions.

Projet 2024 Western Fair
Description du projet

This application is for the “2024 Western Fair”, an expanded Fair, taking place September 6 to 15, 2024 at the Western Fair District in London. The Fair is embarking on the production of several new components in 2024, including:

(1) “Risky Play Summit” is a social-good-based ‘urban arts’ festival/summit that will take place within the 2024 Western Fair. Celebrating global urban-arts icons, the event will transform Dundas St. into a vibrant, globally recognized destination for urban art. The event will showcase a group of world-class free thinkers, and artists from global sub-cultures such as graffiti, street art, photography, skateboarding and break-dancing performers who will showcase their craft and lead workshops and panel discussions;

(2) Expanded “Western Fair Concert Series”, expanded from three to five-seven featured performances (artists tbc);

Traditional Fair programming includes:

(3) Equine programming;

(4) “Only in OEV Music Garden+, presented by Old East Village BIA. The Music Garden features local craft 10-days of music by local emerging artist and local craft beer;

(5) Kids entertainment stage featuring four acts from Farco Entertainment;

(6) Outdoor entertainment area featuring world class Canadian midway entertainment;

(7) The Canine Circus Show;

(8) Smash Wrestling;

(9) An Illusionist Show;

(10) Multicultural Entertainment stage (representing different local multicultural and Indigenous groups); and

(11) Culinary stage featuring local culinary cooking and tasting demonstrations.
