OPENING OCTOBER 3rd
The Canadian Opera Company has partnered with with some of the world’s most renowned opera companies on new productions this season, and kicks the year off with Verdi’s Falstaff.
Director Robert Carsen lovingly evokes 1950’s England in this hilarious production, which recently delighted audiences at Covent Garden, La Scala and the Met.

COLVILLE at the AGO
Born in Toronto in 1920, Alex Colville was a painter, printmaker and veteran who drew his inspiration from the world around him, transforming the seemingly mundane figures and events of everyday life into archetypes of the modern condition. He was made a Companion of the Order of Canada in 1982 and won a Governor General’s Visual and Media Arts Award in 2003.

The Royal Ontario Museum continues to celebrate its 100th anniversary with a fantastic line up of exhibitions. Why not go check out Around 1914: Design in a New Age and see some of the amazing work that explores a pivotal period of innovation and experimentation as artists struggled to reconcile quality design with the emergence of mass production, and the new materials made available with technology.

Get Fortified…
Special Congratulations to the Fort York Visitor Centre for opening their doors to the public. The new visitor centre is located below and just north of the Gardiner Expressway, at the entrance to the National Historic Site – in alignment with the original shoreline of Lake Ontario. The new building will be Fort York’s front door, welcoming and orienting visitors.
Travel to the Far East (in the East End)
The Aga Khan Museum opened their doors too, and to rave reviews. This striking architectural site features a spectacular collection of art from the Islamic world, and brings a much needed revitalization to one of Toronto’s forgotten neighbourhoods.

Word on the street is…
That Word On The Street had another great festival this year! Visitors rubbed elbows with some of their favourite writers, browsed the Marketplace for their next big read, and enjoyed performances, demonstrations, and all manner of fun!
