SpringWorks: Indie Theatre and Arts Festival
Description du projet
This application is for “SpringWorks: Indie Theatre & Arts Festival 2017”, taking place at various locations throughout Stratford and Perth County from September 29 to October 22, 2017. Organizers have decided to shift the Festival dates as research has indicated that Stratford is more heavily trafficked in autumn. As the programming is decided by a professional jury in the spring, many program details have yet to be finalized. SWF 2017 will have over 100 events, including nine enhancements:: (1)”VOICES & VISIONS - THE NEXT 150”: a special addition of theatrical performances to honour Canada’s sesquicentennial (programming yet to be finalized); (2) “SWF and YOU”: a series of moderated discussions after the Canada 150 programming aimed at facilitating the audience’s dialogue with creators about their work; (3) “STRATFORD GIANT PUPPET”: a pilot workshop with visiting and local artists that will result in the construction of a large articulated puppet. The puppet will become the Festival’s mascot animating Stratford during the festival, and will be an ambassador for SWF at events around Ontario. (4) “SPRINGWORKS ARTS & CRAFTS”: an enhanced arts and crafts market which will be increased from from 5 tables in 2016 to at least 20 in 2017; (5)”RELAXED INCLUSION” a pilot project in partnership with Gallery Stratford where presenters will collaborate to support patrons with disabilities; (6) “STRATFORD WINDOW PROJECT”: a pilot project which will invite audiences to engage via social media with the digital art pieces in street level windows in the downtown core; (7) “SCARE THE CROWS”: audiences will be invited into the creative process of making scarecrows, some which will be installed in Gallery Stratford’s Sculpture Garden and other locations throughout Stratford; (8) “SPOKEN WORD”: SWF and Gallery Stratford will co-host a weekend of spoken word performances and workshops in collaboration with the local high schools and the Stratford Public Library; and (9) “CULTURE DAYS”: the launch of SWF will have coincide with Culture Days and the organizations are planning extensive cross-marketing. SWF will showcase previews of performances and engage visitors in experiential activities. Other programming partners include: The Agora Gallery, the Village Studio Gallery, University of Waterloo and Revel Caffe.
