Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre
The Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre is a charitable not-for-profit organization incorporated as the Folk Arts Council of St. Catharines in 1970, having the mandate to support and assist the ethno-cultural and newcomer community in Niagara through a broad range of programs and services.The Niagara Folk Arts Multicultural Centre delivers many programs and events, including the Niagara Folk Arts Festival, Canada’s oldest continually running multicultural festival. Held each year during May, the Festival celebrates the blend of cultures that makes Canada a diverse nation. Their mission is to promote the preservation, development, and advancement of the cultural and artistic heritage of the people of Canada. The mostly free event offers multicultural food, drink, art, live performance, workshops and children’s activities.

Niagara Folk Arts Festival 2018 - Children/Youth/Family Programming
This application is for “Niagara Folk Arts Festival 2018 - Children, Youth, and Family Programming”, taking place in St. Catharines from May 3 to 27, 2018. The 2018 Festival will focus of engaging children/young families/youth through targeted programming, including: (1) May 4: “Student Cultural Sharing Event” in partnership with the District School Board of Niagara, students will be invited to present how they keep their cultural diversity alive in Canada, inviting their peers to take part in student led activities. Later that night, In the Soil Theatre Group will be presenting “Suitcase in Point”, a theater production for children; (2) May 5-6: the International Children's’ Day/Experiential Family Programming area will be launched. Programming will include a fashion show illustrating and explaining cultural dress and the creation of a mosaic mural. (3) May 11: a family friendly East Coast themed dinner event with fiddle music and a lobster/shrimp dinner will be offered with a pay as you go format; (4) May 18: the Folk Arts Multicultural Centre Youth Group will coordinate a combination of cultural and contemporary activities activities for children aged 6-13.
