Talk Is Free Theatre is based in Barrie, Ontario. The company was founded in 2002 by Artistic Producer Arkady Spivak and since then has produced sixty productions. Our mission is to produce and to develop a wide range of ensemble-based programming, concentrating largely on new writing, rediscoveries of neglected work from the past and drastic re-examinations of classical repertoire.

Immersive Theatre: The Foreign Land & Every Brilliant Thing
This application is for “Audience-Specific Art”, two new productions that will encourage audience participation, taking place in various locations in Barrie between September 12, 2018 and March 24, 2019. The two productions are: (1) Co-produced with Specific Theatre in London, England, “The Foreign Land” will be an immersive three-day long theatrical experience, in which each patron will become the protagonist in the story they are watching. Part of the journey will see some patrons travel to London, UK where they will become characters in a secret musical, while others will continue watching the proceedings through live-streaming and social media; and (2) “Every Brilliant Thing”, Duncan MacMillan’s immersive play about a boy who grows up in the shadow of suicide. While one actor performs in the round. “Performing patrons” be asked to play various characters in the boy’s life. Each performance will be in a different location in Barrie (ranging from living rooms of 20 patrons to larger auditoriums of 400 seats).
